Feed a Child

The daily table.

Food support means children in our partner's care eat consistently — and that we can show where the money went.

Anikana Foundation, our field partner in Jinja and Buwenge, Uganda, has told us that food is their most constant need. Our role is to help fund those purchases and then publish what was actually bought, at what price, in what period. We are not running a feeding programme ourselves; we support a local one and report on it.

Why this matters

Consistent nutrition changes the whole week.

  • A child who eats consistently can concentrate at school instead of surviving the day.
  • Irregular meals affect growth, immunity and energy, and make illness harder to recover from.
  • Predictable food reduces pressure on caregivers, who otherwise spend the day sourcing meals.
  • Steady nutrition is the foundation every other kind of support depends on.

What this support provides

Staple foods, bought locally.

  • Rice, posho, beans and sugar — the staples our partner has described as core to the daily table
  • Cooking essentials such as oil and salt where the partner reports the need
  • Meals shared by the children living in our partner's care
  • Bulk purchasing when local prices and storage make it sensible

Purchasing and distribution are handled by our partner in Uganda. Our target standard is that each purchase is supported by a receipt or written record retained on file, and that the totals we publish here trace back to those documents.

What this does and does not tell us

This record shows a purchase, not a verified outcome. It does not tell us how many children ate, how long the food lasted, or how it was distributed — our partner has not yet supplied those measurements, and we will not estimate them.

These are documented purchases, not verified outcomes. See the transparency ledger for how this spending reconciles against funds transferred.

Cost analysis

What does it actually cost?

Food cost analysis

We cannot yet publish a cost per child or per day.

We can show what was spent — 600,000 UGX documented on food — but a meaningful per-child or per-day figure needs information we have not received yet. We will not estimate it.

Still required from our partner

  • Measured quantities on each purchase line
  • How many children the purchase fed
  • How many days the purchase lasted
  • Posho144,000 UGX
  • Rice76,000 UGX
  • Beans252,000 UGX
  • Cooking oil & spices128,000 UGX

Our verified costs

Jordan River Charity / Anikana Foundation figures taken only from receipts, invoices, bills, written quotations or partner records we hold.

Local cost verification in progress.

We are collecting local price documentation — market receipts, bulk purchase invoices and partner records from Jinja and Buwenge. Until those are reviewed and complete, we will not publish a '$X feeds a child' figure.

External context — not our figures

Published third-party information, kept separate from our own spending and never added into our totals.

No sourced external context has been recorded for this area yet.
