Nankya’s Story
Nankya lived with her stepmother while her biological mother was absent amid gender-based violence in the family. She sometimes went without food and clothing, and the adults around her were unable to provide consistent care. She began seeking help from friends of her mother, and during counseling Anikana Foundation learned that she was at risk of ending up on the streets. She was brought into Anikana’s care at a young age and now regards Mama Anikana as the motherly figure she had long been missing.
